Why Insuate it?

Concrete is a heat sink. Without the proper insulation it steals heat from the house constantly. Heat loss through the concrete slab might not be as severe as heat loss through the ceiling. However, for homeowners looking to maximize the energy efficiency of their homes, insulated subflooring will go a long way in improving the home's overall thermal performance. With Armourcore's flooring system using superior materials such as XPS Polystyrene it keeps moisture out and creates a thermal break between the concrete slab and your floor finishings.

underfloor heating

The image above illustrates the separation between the underfloor heating and the concrete slab when applying the Amourcore floor system. This barrier allows for significant cost savings in heating, as most of the heat rises rather than being absorbed by the slab, resulting in reduced energy consumption for heating tiles and bathroom areas.

insulated wall and floor

The image above illustrates the functionality of the Armourcore insulated floor system in conjunction with an advanced insulated wall. This design minimizes the areas where heat can escape. In a traditional insulated home, heating a room causes heat to reflect off walls and ceiling, but when it reaches the floor heat loss occurs.

With proper insulation this image shows how heat circulates when all four surfaces are insulated for maximizing energy efficiency.

In this video shows the immediate difference in temperature going between concrete to XPS.

  • Thermal Performance

  • Moisture Resistance:

  • Durability, Strong and rigid. Ideal for load-bearing applications

  • XPS is accepted under NZBC Clause H1 (Energy Efficiency).c

  • Long-Term Performance.

  • High Compressive Strength: 300kpa

XPS is a rigid, closed-cell foam known for its superior performance. It stands out for its superior strength, moisture resistance, consistent thermal performance, and excellent compressive strength. These factors make XPS the go-to choice for applications demanding durability, load-bearing capacity, and long-term insulation efficiency, making it ideal for concrete slab applications.

OSB 3– or Oriented Strand Board – is strong, high density, versatile, reconstituted wood panels. It is identified by its characteristic wood strand surface and is composed of layers of engineered wood strands bonded with heat-cured adhesives.

Each layer is orientated at right angles to the adjacent layer creating a strong, stable panel that resists delamination and warping with a surface ready for any floor coverings.
